Who makes the real ones
- WinCraft (owned by Fanatics) — “Team Licensed Construction Hard Hat” lines across NFL, MLB, NHL and NBA. Cap-style shells, sold through the official league shops.
- MSA Safety — Officially licensed NFL V-Gard hard hats for all 32 teams, in both cap style and full brim, with MSA’s Fas-Trac suspension. The premium pick, from one of the biggest names in industrial head protection.

Cap style or full brim?
- Cap style — the classic baseball-cap profile. Lighter, works with most clip-on accessories, fits in a truck cab without thinking about it.
- Full brim — 360° of shade and rain runoff. The pick for outdoor trades, flaggers, and anyone south of the Mason-Dixon line in July. Licensed full-brim versions come from the MSA NFL line.
Sizing and suspension
Licensed team hard hats are one-size shells with adjustable suspensions — ratchet if you’re lucky, pin-lock on some WinCraft runs. If you’re between settings or wear a winter liner, size the suspension with the liner on.
What to avoid
- “Team” hard hats with no ANSI Z89.1 stamp inside the shell — decorative, not protective.
- Replica football/batting helmets for site use — Riddell and Rawlings replicas are collectibles. Great on a shelf, useless under a scaffold.
- Hand-painted or hydro-dipped custom shells from marketplace sellers — aftermarket paint can void a shell’s rating, and unlicensed logos have a way of being wrong in embarrassing ways.
